Accessible India Campaign/ सुगम्य भारत अभियान is the nationwide flagship campaign for achieving universal accessibility for all citizens including elderly & persons with disabilities.
Universal accessibility is to enable people with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in all aspects of life. This will also ensure their equal access on an equal basis with others, in the physical environment, in transportation, to Information and Communication and all facilities and services open / provided to the public both in urban and rural areas as mandated by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) that India has signed & ratified.
With firm commitment of the Government of India towards socio-economic transformation (स्वावलंबन) of the persons with disabilities by year 2020, there is an crucial & urgent need to create mass awareness for promoting and implementing universal accessibility.
Svayam is a proud partner with Government of India in promoting Accessible India Campaign as part of the Campaign Steering Committee and also on Program Monitoring Unit. It is partnering with other ministries/ departments of government / DPOs/ NGOs / Corporate Stakeholders/ Institutes of Higher Learning, Universities/ Colleges, Professional bodies and persons with disabilities. Svayam is continuously creating a team of Access Auditors called “Svayam Brigade” through focussed training workshops to make the vision of Incredible India – Accessible India a reality by the year 2020.
